Motifs and Theme:

Throughout the three episodes, readers find a recurring theme of childhood and innocence from the young actors used. This motif nullifies the tone amidst the adverse criminal activity in their daily work. The protagonist himself is portrayed to look younger with a mature mindset. His understanding about the crime activity presented to him shows not only the serious manner of the situation but also provides a contrasting perspective of childhood innocence from the intentional appearance and mature hatred from the protagonist’s cognitive mindset.

The episode consists of an important motif - the rubiks cube. The rubiks cube is usually presented unsolved when Samuel is under great duress, and is solved on each side of the cube at the end of each episode. While focusing on the case presented to him, Samuel dedicates his time to solve the cube, as it helps expedite his thinking process.

Throughout the three episodes, the emotion theme also plays an important role, as it acts as an incentive that directs the convicts to execute the crime. The driving forces of the three episodes are fear, love and delirium, in chronological order. In the first episode, Simon was killed shortly after receiving a threat concerning Jack’s little daughter. In fear of his     daughter’s life, Jack had resorted to murder after realizing that it was the only way for him to keep his daughter. In the second episode, Price had killed the husband of his best friend, Marianna, whom he had intense love feelings for. After months of vowing for her, he had finally ended the life of her husband out of his love for her. To many, this can also be interpreted as an action due to jealousy. In the final episode, readers witness the madness and the elevated extent that Wolfe has gone just to slake the madness that roars within himself.

Guilt is another major theme that the story abides with throughout the episodes. In the first episode, readers are informed that Jay had left his previous job as a doctor in Bringham School of Medicine. More importantly, this act was out of Jay’s own volition due to an accident that had costed him the life of his patient. Thus, his culpability had compelled him to leave his prior job and pursue a similar job for the better good of the society. While Jay’s backstory depicts an interesting idea of what guilt can strive one to do, Wolfe presents a contrasting view for the audience, where he is lacking of guilt.

Sergeant Speare had been an important member of Wolfe scheme, and it is even believed that without Speare’s help, Wofle’s plan wouldn’t have accomplished much. However, as loyal as Speare was, Wolfe hadn’t falter in ending his loyal companion’s life in the third episode. Moreover, Speare had even ended one of the members in Wofle’s gang to preserve the anonymity of Wolfe. However, to Wolfe, Speare was one of the many who was no longer necessary.

We have decided to go with Raven Production as our production name, because a raven bird on its own has a very dismal aura to it, which is perfect for our negative depiction of the Heart of Humanity. Ravens also have a background as the “keeper” of secrets that assist in revealing the truth behind secrets and concealed thoughts, which is what the protagonist in the movie has been doing throughout.
